Opened in 1878, Girls' Latin School was the first college preparatory high school for girls in the United States, and the fourth public high school for girls. Tetlow, an educator, was the headmaster of the Boston Girls' High and Girls' Latin Schools. He was at Girls' Latin from its founding in 1878 until 1910.
